It took Edgard Zayas two prep races aboard Here Comes Bullet – producing a second and a third – to get acquainted with the gelding, and now the son of First Dude has won two in a row. After breaking his maiden with Zayas at Gulfstream Park on July 4, Here Comes Bullet came right back yesterday to score at a flat mile, raising his record to 2-1-3 in nine starts.
The 4-year-old gelding bred by Dr. Thomas L. Croley was off fourth and was allowed to drop back 10 lengths midway down the backstretch as the leaders ripped off fractions of :22.66 and :44.88. Zayas began asking him nearing the turn, and Here Comes Bullet quickly cut into the lead, catching the pace-setting trio approaching the stretch, and proving to be much the best in the lane, winning by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:37.92.
Here Comes Bullet paid $9.60, collected a check of $11,600, and gave First Dude 12 winners for the month of July.
