First Dude is closing in on two more career milestones after the popular victory of Right Karma under Edgard Zayas in a one-mile test for maidens at Gulfstream Park.
The 5-year-old horse bred by Tom and Lori Fackler at Ocala’s Best A Luck Farm was off in mid-pack and remained within striking distance down the backstretch. Zayas sent him up three wide on the turn and Right Karma reached the lead entering the stretch. It was a two-way battle down the lane, with Right Karma proving best by half a length over 7/2 High Prince at the wire.
Right Karma, a $160,000 OBS April 2-year-old, paid $2.60 as the heavy favorite and picked up a check for $15,000, increasing his career total to $30,590 on a record of 1-2-0 in seven starts. First Dude is now slightly less than $100,000 away from reaching $28 million in career progeny earnings, and he’s just seven away from reaching 3,000 top three finishes by his runners.
