Bahamian Squall missed attaining his first million-dollar season in 2021 by about $95,000. Thanks to a pair of very different winners yesterday, the son of Gone West is well on his way to reaching that milestone this year; with less than six months gone, he’s up to $610,836 and is seventh among active sires on Florida’s leading sire list.
Bahamian Moon struck first up north at Monmouth Park, going wire-to-wire with Jose Ferrer in a $37,000 allowance optional claimer for her sixth career victory. Then it was Elliereeseaston down south at Gulfstream Park, and she came from out of the clouds to score under Jesus Rios.
Bahamian Moon, a 5-year-old mare bred by Good Beginnings Farm, has won two of her last three and is 6-6-1 in 21 starts. She’s won three times this year and yesterday’s check for $22,200 raised her career bank account to $129,559. She scored by 2 3/4 lengths over 8/5 favorite She Dazzle in 1:12.71 over a sloppy track and paid $12.20.
Elliereeseaston, a 4-year-old filly bred by Troy Lange, had finished third five times in her previous seven tries before giving her sire his 14th winner this year. She was clocked in 1:18.79 for 6 1/2 furlongs over a sloppy track, winning by 1 3/4 lengths and paying $19.40. The $30,000 OBS July 2-year-old added $10,400 to her bank account, which now stands at $52,120.
