After shipping Ruda from Tampa Bay Downs to Monmouth Park, trainer Claudio Gonzalez wasn’t about to fool with success. The 4-year-old filly by First Dude, who didn’t start at two or three, had come from behind at Tampa to score in her second start, so her trainer sent her back under the same conditions, a mile and one-sixteenth on the grass.
With Carlos Rojas aboard, Ruda was off sixth on the inside after the break, moved wide to find racing room down the backstretch, looped the field entering the stretch, and coasted to the wire four lengths in front, clocked in 1:42.21. The filly bred by Harvey Morris earned $19,800 and has banked $28,76 in her three starts.
