It’s anybody’s guess how many people know that Rillito Park is in Tucson, Arizona, but that’s where Bahamian Squall had Taino House become his seventh winner of 2023, and the first to win twice.
The 6-year-old gelding recorded his best career Equibase ‘E’ speed figure, an 87, with a nearly six-length victory under Keivin Serrano. Despite stumbling leaving the gate, Taino House battled for the early lead going to the first quarter, took over the top spot before the half, and went on to score in a clocking of 1:05.6 for the 5 1/2 furlongs; the track record is 1:04.10.
Taino House, bred by Don Dizney, paid $4.40 and is now 5-4-3 in 27 starts with earnings of $55,370 while racing at the low-purse venues around Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
