Taino House was welcomed into the infamous late-odds-drop club at Zia Park yesterday, and responded with his second victory in six tries this year.
The 4-year-old gelding by Bahamian Squall walked up to the gate with Alfredo Juarez Jr. sitting as the 4/5 favorite on the tote board. He broke quickly, settled into a stalking second down the backstretch, and when the board made its final change, Taino House was down to 2/5.
Juarez urged Taino House on the turn and the gelding bred by Donald Dizney engaged pace-setter Doctor Tink as they began the run down the lane. Passing the sixteenth pole, Taino House put it in overdrive and went on to score by 3 1/2 lengths, getting the five furlongs in :58.55, earning a check for $7,200 and being claimed out of the race.
