Sun Squall won a race at six furlongs at Prairie Meadows yesterday and added three milestones to the resume of Bahamian Squall.
The 5-year-old gelding bred by Sunshine Thoroughbred Corp. became (1) Bahamian Squall’s 23rd winner of 2022, (2) the sixth of the stallion’s runners to pass $100,000 in earnings, and (3) pushed his sire over the $900,000 mark in progeny earnings for the year.
Alberto Pusac was aboard Sun Squall, who broke slowly from the No. 1 post and took up a position in fifth place on the rail down the backstretch. Pusac slowly moved the gelding up on the rail coming to the turn, swung him to mid-track and Sun Squall flew the final sixteenth, making up five lengths on the leader, and won by a widening 1 1/4 lengths.
Sun Squall raised his record to 4-6-7 in 29 starts and added $8,070 to his bank account, which now stands at $104,127, while increasing Bahamian Squall’s 2022 earnings to $900,792. He’ll pass his best season – 2021 – in short order.
