In 2020, Bahamian Squall’s runners produced nine winners and progeny earnings of $419,795. The son of Gone West promises to easily eclipse those numbers this year; he has already notched four winners, earnings of $81,656 and added his first stakes-winner.
Sun Squall became that fourth winner yesterday at Tampa Bay Downs, winning under Ademar Santos at 6 1/2 furlongs while clocked in 1:17.21, less than two seconds off the track record. The 4-year-old gelding stalked the pace between horses in the two path down the backstretch, moved to contend for the lead on the turn and took over heading down the stretch. He held off runner-up Litigant by one-half length at the wire and collected $7,920 for the effort.
Bred by Sunshine Thoroughbred Corp., the $50,000 OBS April 2-year-old raised his record to 2-3-5 in 16 starts and his earnings to $63,960.
