Stretch Runner and jockey Erin Walker have become a formidable duo at Presque Isle Downs. The talented rider and the 4-year-old Bahamian Squall gelding have teamed up for three victories in four starts since Stretch Runner left Tampa Bay Downs without breaking his maiden after four tries.
Last night’s victory was virtually a carbon copy of his last just 10 days ago, in which Stretch Runner scored by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:16.71 for the 6 1/2 furlongs, paid $6, and earned his best Equibase ‘E’ speed figure – a 75. In this one at the same distance, Walker guided the gelding to the wire in front by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:16.25, with a payoff of $5.20, and another personal best ‘E’ of 83.
Stretch Runner, bred by Nora Imprescia Coovert, broke his maiden four races back by 7 1/4 lengths, meaning his three victories with Walker aboard have come by a combined 14 1/4 lengths.
