Spirit Wind went wire-to-wire in the Gr. II, $200,000 Honorable Miss Stakes at Saratoga, winning by three-quarters of a length, clocked in 1:10.36 for the six furlongs and paying $12. As she neared the wire in deep stretch, announcer Frank Mirahmadi brought her home with “It will be Spirit Wind in coast-to-coast fashion.”
The 5-year-old daughter of Bahamian Squall made it two straight stakes victories under Mike Smith following her 3 1/2-length score in the $100,000 Memorial Day Sprint Stakes at Lone Star, for which she earned an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 108. For her Spa victory, the mare bred by Jacks or Better Farm received a 100, while collecting a check for $110,000. After her fifth stakes victory, Spirit Wind sports an enviable record of 7-2-1 in 12 starts, with earnings of $555,090, best of all her sire’s runners. She’s earned $192,650 in 2024 alone.
