Speedy Dudette is on the verge of becoming the 29th member of First Dude’s $200,000 club after a strong second-place finish yesterday in the $100,000 Red Camelia Stakes at Fair Grounds. The 6-year-old mare bred in Louisiana by Robert and Dana Salome earned a check for $20,000, raising her career total to $197,040.
In the race that came off the turf and went at a mile and 70 yards over a muddy track, Speedy Dudette jumped out to the lead under Aubrie Green and led every step of the way until just past the eighth pole, where she was overtaken by 6/5 favorite A G’s Charlotte, who went on to score by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:44.78. It was the first stakes-placed effort for Speedy Dudette in 17 starts, in which she has posted a record of 4-4-5. She has achieved Equibase speed figures of 84, 92 and 83 in her last three races.
