Shelley Brown paid just $3,000 for Orange Theory as a yearling at the 2019 OBS October sale and it’s somewhat of a surprise that the owner/trainer still has the 4-year-old First Dude filly in her barn after 24 starts.
Orange Theory is 4-3-6 in those 24 races following her nearly five-length triumph in a $19,000 allowance optional claimer at Century Mile in Canada yesterday. Dane Nelson was aboard the filly in the one-mile race and took her wire-to-wire after lulling her rivals to sleep in a :24.54 first quarter. She completed the mile in 1:36.72 and earned a check for $11,400 in Canadian funds – $8,745 in U. S. dollars. The filly bred by William P. Sorren paid $8 and raised her career bank account to $53,335. Her ‘E’ speed figure of 84 is a career best.
