In his previous 10 races prior to last evening at Evangeline Downs, Quana Dude ran up a record of two seconds, four thirds and four fourths. In just about every race, the 5-year-old by First Dude was closing in on the leaders in the run to the wire, but always falling short.
That all ended in his latest, with Joel Dominguez getting every inch out of the gelding bred by Donald Dizney, and giving First Dude his 35th winner of 2022. Quana Dude was away with the leaders in the six-furlong race contested over a sloppy track, and dropped back to fifth briefly down the backstretch. But when the rider let him loose, Quana Dude inhaled the leaders with a four-wide move on the turn, took over heading into the stretch and was never threatened late, winning by 4 1/4 lengths.
Quana Dude paid $7.60 after getting the six furlongs in 1:12.52. He raised his record to 3-2-8 in 31 starts, and the check for $5,700 lifted his earnings to $46,677. First Dude reached another milestone this week, with his career progeny earnings ballooning to $22,033,019.
