Long Layoff Works Well for He’s On the Fly

After sitting on the bench for 6 1/2 months, He’s On the Fly returned at Presque Isle Downs and recorded the co-best Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of his 29-race career, an 85.

In a race at 5 1/2 furlongs over the all-weather track, the 7-year-old Bahamian Squall gelding jumped out to the lead under Walber Alencar, and put up fractions of :22.28, :45.81 and :57.76. Coming to the top of the stretch, he was passed by 8/5 favorite Rock With You, who drifted to the middle of the track in the run to the wire. When Alencar kept his gelding on the inside down the lane, He’s On the Fly re-took the lead nearing the finish and went on to win by half a length in 1:04.12.

It was the first victory in a year for He’s On the Fly, who earned a check for $6,600, raising his career total to $63,778 on a record of 5-3-2 in his 29 starts.
