Grumpy’s Buddy raced twice as a 2-year-old without hitting the board, but he’s taken care of that problem this season. The 3-year-old West Virginia-bred gelding by Bahamian Squall is now 2-3-1 in seven starts at three at Charles Town after his come-from-behind victory in a $30,500, 7-furlong allowance race. 

    Arnaldo Bocachica had Grumpy’s Buddy relaxing in sixth place down the backstretch, turned him loose for a five-wide move on the turn for home and the gelding owned and bred by Newborne Farm rolled to the wire 1 1/2 lengths in front clocked in 1:27.21. He paid $9 and the $17,976 check boosted his earnings to $61,127.
