First Dude had just two runners compete across the country yesterday, and both won, Fulton Street at Gulfstream Park and Ready to Runaway at Canterbury Park, resulting in some important statistical changes.
(1) Fulton Street won in his second start and became First Dude’s first 2-year-old winner of 2021, while earning a check for $46,000.
(2) Ready to Runaway won for the first time in four starts this year and collected a check for $24,900.
(3) The two lucrative checks rocketed First Dude past the $1 million mark in progeny earnings for the season, up to $1,068,559, third behind Khozan and Brethren on Florida’s general sire list.
(4) The two first-time winners gave First Dude 38 for the year, and he passed Khozan for the lead in that category for the first time since Jan. 1.
(5) Ready to Runaway’s bank account jumped to $397,735, and she passed Super Dude ($385,065) for sixth place among First Dude’s runners.
(6) The victory was No. 10 for Ready to Runaway, and she became the fourth runner to reach double figures for First Dude.
Fulton Street received the perfect ride from Jesus Rios in the $70,000 maiden special, sitting third on the inside for most of the 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf, then swinging wide into the stretch and running down Royal Racer late to score by a length. He paid $23.40.
Ready to Runaway, who likes to run on the pace, was an unaccustomed fifth with Roimes Chirinos on the sloppy Canterbury surface until the field hit the top of the stretch. Then the $4,000 Minnesota-bred yearling closed determinedly, picking up four or five lengths from the eighth pole to the finish, and getting up in the last two jumps to win by a neck, paying $4.80. She’s an eye-opening 10-5-3 in 20 starts.
