In his first start of this year at Mahoning Valley, the 19th race of his career, Fivefive Six Champ cruised home by eight lengths and received his best Equibase ‘E’ speed figure – a 101. At Mountain Resort and Casino last night he won by 4 1/2 lengths in his 27th start and received a 100.
Fivefive Six Champ was ridden by Ricardo Barrios last night in a $21,200 allowance optional claimer that was originally scheduled for the grass but was switched to six furlongs on the dirt. The 5-year-old gelding bred by Tom McCrocklin shot to the lead out of the gate, put up swift fractions of :22.00, :44.55 and :56.78, and coasted to the wire by himself in 1:09.30 with 3/5 favorite Out of Cents a distant second. He paid $6.00 and collected a check of $12,296, hiking his career total to $144,186, of which $91,166 has come this year during which he’s won six of nine starts.
