First Dude’s June ledger now reads eight winners in the span of 19 days after Petulant Delight romped in a mile and 70-yard test at Parx Racing yesterday, his second victory of 2021.
The 6-year-old gelding was ridden by Dexter Haddock, who sent Petulant Delight to the lead out of the gate, and they engaged in a head-and-head duel with 24-1 shot Louie’s Wish through fractions of :22.73 and :46.12 down the length of the backstretch. As they hit the turn, Petulant Delight began to draw off, opening up by three lengths at the top of the stretch. In the lane, it was strictly no contest as the $37,000 OBS April gelding bred by Ocala Stud Farm finished nearly four lengths in front of 7-10 favorite Zitman, clocked in 1:41.57.
The check for $15,600 raised Petulant Delight’s earnings to $166,705 on a record of 8-6-4 in 31 starts. He paid $7.40, received an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 100, and was claimed out of the race, as several other First Dudes have been lately.
