First Dude’s extraordinary success since the 10th of March reached new heights yesterday when Chelsey Keiser guided the 4-year-old filly Due North to victory by an eye-opening 20 3/4 lengths in the seventh race at Mahoning Valley.
Due North was sitting on the tote board at odds of 5/2 as post time for the six-furlong race approached, but as she jumped out of the gate on top and put up a :22.99 first quarter, her odds dropped to 6/5. The $20,000 OBS June 2-year-old continued on past the half in :46.45 while extending her daylight margin, which reached 14 1/2 lengths in mid-stretch. She cruised home in 1:11.98 for her second career victory and earned a check for $6,076.
The filly became the 10th winner for First Dude since March 10 and his 21st of the year, second best among Florida sires, and just four behind leader Khozan. It left First Dude less than $34,000 from reaching $19 million in career progeny earnings.
