First Dude made significant moves upward in two important categories on Florida’s sire lists yesterday, hitting a grand slam at three tracks in Pennsylvania, New York and Indiana.
The son of Stephen Got Even nailed four winners- two at Parx, one at Finger Lakes and one at Indiana Grand, and changed the complexion of Florida’s money and winners’ lists. First Dude began the day in fourth place money-wise behind Khozan, Brethren and Adios Charlie, and wound up passing the latter two and moving up to second with progeny earnings of $817,377. He began the day two winners behind Khozan, 32 to 30, and begins today one in front, 33-32.
PARX – The Don Dizney-bred Roan Mountain boosted his record to 3-5-4 in 18 starts, winning with a flat mile in 1:38.11 under Dexter Haddock. The 4-year-old gelding rallied from fifth place to score by half a length, paying $10.40, earning a check for $15,000, and raising his total to $74,700. The big gray is 2-5-3 in his last 11 starts . . . Baby Ice scored her first victory of 2021 to raise her record to an impressive 7-6-5 in 37 tries. The check for $10,800 boosted the 7-year-old mare’s bank account to $136,835. She benefited from an inside trip, paying $13.20 after winning by 3 1/2 lengths with Roberto Rosado.
INDIANA GRAND – Sunset Paula Jo was off second to favored Forevernoa, remained on her shoulder until the turn, then ran past the 9/5 shot with ease down the lane to prevail by three lengths and paid $11. The 6-year-old mare bred by Marian H. Haire was ridden by Marcelino Pedroza for her first victory of the year, worth $19,500, and raised her total to $134,072 on a record of 6-2-5 in 29 starts. She has now won races at Indiana Grand, Belterra, Thistledown, Mahoning Valley, Mountaineer and Keeneland.
FINGER LAKES – First Homestead made it 3-1-0 in 10 starts with a wire-to-wire score under Reylu Guterriez. getting five furlongs in :59.18 and paying $4.60. The 4-year-old gelding bred by Peggy Delheim and Pete Mattson earned a check for $6,900 and was claimed out of the race.
