First Dude Adds Two Stakes-Placed Runners

First Dude celebrated the weekend with a pair of stakes-placed runners, lightly-raced Ray Arewethereyet finishing third in the $110,000 Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Fillies Stakes on the Florida Cup program at Tampa Bay Downs, and Rogue Too getting third in the $100,000 Latonia Stakes at Turfway Park.

Ray Arewethereyet had finished first and second at Gulfstream Park in her only two previous starts, yet was sent off at just 5-1 in the seven-furlong Sophomore Fillies. Saddled with the No. 9 post and with a great deal of speed inside her, the 3-year-old filly owned and bred by Raymond Mamone was bumped leaving the gate and was forced to race four wide for the length of the backstretch. On the turn, Samy Camacho sent her even wider and she still was able to chase the leaders heading for home. The wide trip took its toll, though, and she finished a solid third, collecting a check for $10,000 and raising her total for three races to $42,850. Barring the unforeseen, this filly appears to have a big future in store for her.

Rogue Too tracked the early pace under Rogelia Miranda in her one-mile run over the all-weather surface at Turfway, then took the lead after three-quarters of a mile. She held on until deep stretch, but was nailed in the shadow of the wire and missed finishing second by a head. She collected $6,975, raising her career total to $212,005 on a record of 11-6-3 in 36 starts.

First Dude is now less than $57,000 from reaching $19 million in career progeny earnings.
