Under a beautifully timed ride from Yan Aviles, Exonerated Prez broke out of a prolonged slump and scored a major upset in a six-furlong test at Thistledown.

    Sent off at odds of 25-1, the 7-year-old First Dude gelding bred in Kentucky by Donald Dizney sat a comfortable rail trip down the backstretch, and when Aviles asked him, Exonerated Prez slipped through along the inside, took the lead in the lane, and drew away to a 2 1/2-length score in 1:13.60. He paid $53 and earned a check of $7,560 for owner/trainer Richard Genovese, which boosted his lifetime total to $102,624. He now sports a record of 7-5-9 in 61 starts.
