Charlie’s Wish Wins One $110,000 Race at Tampa Bay Downs, Happyisashappydoes 2nd in Another

    First Dude enjoyed a lucrative afternoon on the Sunday Festival Cup program, getting a winner in one of the $110,000 stakes and a runner-up finish in another.

CHARLIE’S WISH – The 4-year-old filly bred by Three Gin Guys Stable enjoyed an inside trip with red-hot Paco Lopez in the Pleasant Acres Stallions Distaff Turf Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the grass. Paco had Charlie’s Wish in third on the rail heading down the backstretch, slipped her through on the inside coming to the turn, swung out at the top of the stretch and went on to score by half a length. The race went in 1:40.94, not far off the course record of 1:39.25. She collected a check for $70,000, increasing her career total to $296,474 on a record of 4-5-3 in 14 starts. It marked her second stakes victory accompanied by five stakes-placed efforts.

HAPPYISASHAPPYDOES – The 4-year-old gelding  was in front from the start under Antonio Gallardo in the Esmark Turf Classic Stakes, but couldn’t hold off Live Oak Stud’s Forever Souper in the final sixteenth, succumbing by 1 1/4 lengths. The 1 1/8-mile race went in 1:46.87, just .61 hundredths of a second off the course record. Happyisashappydoes is 2-4-0 in nine starts and his earnings jumped to $99,865 with Sunday’s $20,000 added. He received his best Equibase ‘E’ speed figure – a 104.
