Channah Del Mar Breaks Her Maiden in Indiana

In five starts as a 2-year-old at Horseshoe Indianapolis, the best Channah Del Mar could muster up was three fourth-place finishes and two fifths. After a five-month vacation, the 3-year-old Indiana-bred First Dude filly returned and finished third twice and second three times before finally breaking her maiden in start No. 11.

With Fernando De La Cruz aboard, the filly bred by Casey Seaman scored in a $36,000 maiden special at a mile and a sixteenth, getting the distance in 1:44.63, winning by 2 1/2 lengths and paying $6.20. The $12,000 OBS June 2-year-old collected $21,600, increasing her earnings for owner/trainer Raymond J. Paquette III to $57,250, with $50,400 coming this year.
