Double Diamond Farm’s talented Running Memories scored her second impressive victory at Gulfstream Park yesterday, winning a $38,000 allowance optional claiming race by three lengths under Victor Lebron in just her third start. The 3-year-old filly by Bahamian Squall had broken her maiden in her career debut by 2 1/2 lengths, and in between the two, finished fourth in the Melody of Colors Stakes.
Bred by Courtney Meagher, Running Memories was purchased by Double Diamond for $20,000 at the OBS June sale last year. Yesterday’s winner’s check for $23,300 raised her total to $44,755 after she went wire-to-wire in :56.94 for the 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. She paid $6.60.
Not to be outdone, Bahamian Moon went also went wire-to-wire in a $25,000, six-furlong maiden claiming race at Tampa Bay Downs. The 4-year-old filly bred by Good Beginnings Farm became Bahamian Squall’s ninth winner of 2021 clocked in 1:10.92 with Jose Ferrer aboard, while leaving the runner-up 7 3/4 lengths in her wake. She paid $3.60 as favorite, and the $11,657 check raised her total to $21,444 on a record of 1-3-0 in six tries. Her Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 79 was the best of her career.
Bahamian Squall is less than $19,000 away from reaching the $1 million mark in career earnings.
