Bahamian Squall moved within a stone’s throw of the $500,000 mark in 2021 progeny earnings when Bahamian Beauty broke her maiden in the third race at Gulfstream Park yesterday, leaving a 1/5 shot in her wake.
In a field reduced to five after three scratches, the 3-year-old filly stumbled leaving the gate from the No. 1 post, and rider Jesus Rios settled her on the rail, several lengths behind the leaders, including Science, who was sent off at 30 cents to a dollar. Rios moved his filly up on the inside down the backstretch, swung her to the outside entering the stretch, and Bahamian Beauty left the others behind late, winning by 2 1/2 lengths.
The filly bred by Kristine Mitchell scored in her fifth start, paid $8.60 and earned a check for $12,800, leaving her sire just $396 short of half a million dollars.
