Bahamian Squall Locks Up First $1 Million Season

When Foot Sack entered the gate at 12:38 for the first race at Belterra yesterday, Bahamian Squall’s progeny earnings for 2022 stood at $998,375. Less than two minutes later, that number increased to $1,006,075 as the 3-year-old gelding broke his maiden in a six-furlong race reduced to three starters due to scratches.

Ronney Betancourt was aboard Foot Sack, who won for the first time in six tries following a pair of seconds in his previous two races. Foot Sack, at odds of 2-1, raced to the first quarter in :22.37  while dueling with 2/5 favorite Always Get Revenge. On the turn, Always Get Revenge bolted and Foot Sack went on to score by 13 1/4 lengths. He was clocked in 1:13.62 and paid $6 while becoming his sire’s 24th winner, and his check for $7,700 pushed Bahamian Squall over the $1 million mark for the first time.
