Bahama Breeze lived up to her name at Parx Racing yesterday, winning in a breeze racing six furlongs in the rain under Abner Adorno.
The 3-year-old Bahamian Squall filly bred by Double Diamond Farm had finished second two races back, and broke her maiden in her fourth try at odds of 19-1.
Leaving from the No. 6 post, Bahama Breeze cruised to the lead as the field headed for the first quarter, which went in :22.72. She quickly opened up daylight on the field, passing the half in :45.82 and the five furlongs in :58.94, and was in front by four lengths in mid-stretch. She reached the wire in front by nearly three lengths, clocked in 1:12.95, and collected a check of $16,200 for owner/trainer William Hogan.
Bahama Breeze became the eighth winner this year for Bahamian Squall, who is 15th on Florida’s general sire list despite the fact that he has had many less starters than the 14 stallions above him.
