Running Memories added to her status yesterday as one of the leaders of the Double Diamond racing band, scoring a convincing victory in a $47,000 allowance optional claimer at Gulfstream Park.
The daughter of Bahamian Squall, a $20,000 purchase by Donald Dizney at the OBS July sale in 2019, has now won three of her four races at Gulfstream, the last two in a row. The check for $28,700 raised her total to $73,475.
The 3-year-old filly lived up to her name and came out running in the five-furlong race on the turf. Victor Lebron sat her in third place on the rail down the backstretch, swung her off the inside at the top of the stretch and Running Memories proved to be best in the lane, winning by 1 1/4 lengths. A great deal of late money showed for the filly bred by Courtney Meagher and she was sent off as the 2-1 favorite, paying $6.60. She completed the distance in :56.86 and earned an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 95.
