Bahamian Squall Fillies Match Victories at Gulfstreaam

A pair of similar victories by Island Magic and Hay Hay Paula added $39,400 to the account of Bahamian Squall, increasing the stallion’s 2022 progeny earnings to nearly $1.1 million.

The similarities: Both are 4-year-old fillies, both won at Gulfstream Park by two lengths, both came from off the pace, both won on Tapeta and both won for the second time this year while posting their highest Equibase ‘E’ speed figures.

Island Magic came from third place with a strong finish under leading rider Miguel Vasquez, got the five furlongs in :56.67, paid $9.60 and recorded an 83 ‘E.’ With victories in two of her last three starts, she’s 4-2-2 in 16 tries and the $13,600 check increased her career bank account to $69,617.

Hay Hay Paula, who didn’t race at two and three, was seventh and last with Emisael Jaramillo after a :22.07 first quarter. She was sent two wide on the turn and closed with a rush to prove best in the stretch. She paid $7.80, collected $25,800 to raise her total to $46,120 on a record of 2-0-2 in five starts and was awarded an 84 ‘E.’ Her clocking of 1:03.12 for the 5 1/2 furlongs was just half a second off the Tapeta record.
