Bahamian Squall and Double Diamond Share Success at Gulfstream Park

It was an afternoon to remember for Double Diamond Farm at Gulfstream Park yesterday, with Bahamian Moon lighting up the tote board in the third race, followed by Don Dizney’s Years Ago breaking her maiden in her career debut in the fourth.

With Angel Arroyo up, Bahamian Moon scored a major surprise in a race at five furlongs on the grass. The 4-year-old Bahamian Squall filly bred by Good Beginnings Farm broke well from the No. 9 post and sat fourth in the 4-path down the backstretch. Arroyo sent her wide on the turn for home and she easily took the lead, then drew off to score by 2 1/2 lengths in :57.72 without being threatened, and never looking like a 19-1 shot.

Bahamian Moon rewarded her backers with a payoff of $40.40 and her owners with a check for $14,700. She’s 2-3-0 in nine starts. Another daughter of Bahamian Squall, Bahamian Rhapsody, finished fourth in the race, missing second by two necks, and earning $1,050.

In her first try, Years Ago, a 2-year-old Mineshaft filly ridden by Sammy Camacho, won by two lengths in 1:12.86 for six furlongs in a $60,000 maiden special. She paid $7.60 and collected $34,000 for owner/breeder Don Dizney.
