Bahamian Native recorded his best Equibase ‘E’ speed figure – an 80 – while winning in his eighth career start, a 1 1/16th-mile race at Hawthorne.
From the No. 4 post, the 3-year-old colt by Bahamian Squall shot out quickly on the inside under Alberto Burgos and was immediately engaged by 2-1 shot Little Steven, the duo passing the quarter in :24.63. They were still glued to each other after a half in :48.74 and remained that way into the stretch. Despite two more rivals joining the fray, Bahamian Native out-gamed the trio to the wire, scoring by a length in 1:46.87. The colt bred by Frank Davino paid $17.40 and earned a check for $10,200, raising his eight-race bank account to $31,880.
