After three so-so efforts over the main track at Tampa Bay Downs, and one on the grass, Stretch Runner has finally lived up to his name after discovering the all-weather track at Presque Isle Downs. The 4-year-old son of First Dude made it two victories in three starts at the Pennsylvania track yesterday, uncorking a powerful stretch run to win going away at 6 1/2 furlongs.
With Erin Walker aboard, Stretch Runner battled for the lead through a :22.82 quarter, took over after a half in :45.48, opened up by 2 1/2 lengths in the stretch, and was never threatened while coasting to the wire nearly four lengths in front.
The gelding bred by Nora Imprescia Coovert was clocked in 1:16.71, paying $6, while earning a check for $7,800. He received an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 75, his best in seven starts.
