It isn’t often handicappers can get an $11 win price from a horse who won her previous race by nearly 17 lengths. Unless, of course, if that previous victory had come 7 1/2 months ago.

    That was the case with Speedy Dudette, a 4-year-old Louisiana-bred daughter of First Dude who won at Fair Grounds yesterday in a $53,000 allowance test after sitting on the sidelines since her sensational maiden-breaking score at Louisiana Downs last May 21. 

    Reylu Gutierrez was aboard Speedy Dudette for the first time, getting her off quickly, and she took up a contending position on the inside down the backstretch. Gutierrez sent her after pace-setter Sumitup on the turn, swung his filly off the rail and between horses at the top of the stretch, and rolled past the leader to win by nearly three lengths in 1:11.95 for the six furlongs as track announcer John G. Dooley brought her home with “Speedy Dudette comes back on top – Speedy Dudette with style.”

    Owners Robert and Dana Salome’s patience with the filly was rewarded to the tune of $31,800, raising Speedy Dudette’s total to $67,000 on a record of 2-2-1 in six starts.
