Despite the fact that Dudes Lawyer had finished first, second, third and fourth in her last four starts, the Mahoning Valley crowd opted to let the 4-year-old filly get away at 19-1 yesterday, longest price on the board in a $23,500 allowance race at six furlongs.
Dudes Lawyer presented her case early, shooting to the lead under Luis Gonzalez, staving off several challenges along the way while putting up fractions of :22.87 and :46.44, and holding her five rivals at bay in the stretch to score by 1 1/4 lengths. The daughter of First Dude lit up the board at $41 and earned a check of $14,100 for her second victory in 10 starts.
