If racing was seeking a poster girl for the old adage, “If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again,” they might have found her last evening at Presque Isle Downs. The aptly-named Seeking Violet, a 4-year-old daughter of First Dude, finally broke her maiden – in her 19th career start.

    The filly bred by David Dizney raced in his colors for just two races, then wound up in the stable of David Casalinova. During 13 more tries for her new owner, she managed just one third-place finish, and that came at Presque Isle back in September of last year.

    In her current stay in Pennsylvania, Seeking Violet has raced four times, and a second, third and fourth in her previous three efforts set her up for the maiden-breaker. She broke on top for Luis Gonzalez, opened up daylight early, and the closest anybody got thereafter was her 1 3/4-length winning margin, when she was winding down. At one juncture midway in the race, she was in front by 10.

Seeking Violet paid $11.80 and collected a welcome check of $9,600 for her patient owner. She became First Dude’s 46th winner of 2021.
