At the 2020 OBS July sale, Don Dizney dipped in and took the Bahamian Squall filly Running Memories for $20,000, a price that looks like a greater bargain every time she sets foot on the track.
The 3-year-old filly gained her first stakes-placed finish yesterday in the $100,000 Incredible Revenge Stakes at Monmouth Park. She finished second while posting a 102 Equibase ‘E’ speed figure, her first time breaking the 100 mark this year.
Jose Ferrer was aboard Running Memories in the race at 5 1/2 furlongs over the turf course, and the veteran rider shot her to the lead in a :22.20 quarter. She passed the half in :44.51 and turning for home had just two challengers left. She turned away 7/10 favorite Miss Auramet, but was nailed by 4-1 Introduced just before the wire.
The race went in 1:02.50, just 1 1/5th seconds off the course record, and Running Memories earned a check for $20,000, raising her total to $125,975 on a record of 4-1-0-2 in seven starts. The pair of fourth-place finishes both came in stakes races.
