Sierra Diamond Earns Highest Career Number

Sierra Diamond was the longest price on the board at 15-1 in the third race at Thistledown yesterday, but one would never have guessed it based on her performance in the 5 1/2-furlong race.

The 3-year-old filly by Bahamian Squall jumped out of the gate on top from the No. 1 post under Yarmarie Correa, held off various challengers while posting fractions of :23.26, :46.62 and :59.48, then out-gamed 8/5 second choice Itzafriendshipshot to the wire by a head in a final time of 1:06.06.

In winning for the third time in 2021, Sierra Diamond paid $32 and earned a check for $8,760. The filly bred by Donald Dizney was awarded an ‘E’ speed figure of 70 by Equibase, the highest in her 17-race career.
