Running Memories Passes $100,000 Mark With 3rd Straight Victory

Double Diamond’s bargain 2-year-old purchase, Running Memories, gave Bahamian Squall his second $100,000-plus earner at Monmouth Park yesterday with another stylish wire-to-wire performance.

The 3-year-old filly bred by Courtney L. Meagher, a $20,000 OBS July buy in 2020, collected a check for $28,500 from the purse of $47,500 in the 5 1/2-furlong allowance race on the grass, raising her bank account to $101,975. That’s second only to Bahamian Girl ($151,160) among Bahamian Squall’s runners.

Paco Lopez took Running Memories away quickly from the gate and she was in full command after 100 yards. She passed the furlong markers in :22.36, :45.05 and :56.98 before opening up by daylight in the stretch and winning by 3 1/4 lengths. Her clocking of 1:03.12 is just two seconds off the course record.

Running Memories has won four of her five starts, including the last three in a row, by a combined total of 10 lengths. In her only loss, she finished fourth in the Melody of Colors Stakes at Gulfstream Park, beaten less than two lengths after missing the break, then having to steady late in the race.
