Since his first crop reached the races in 2015, First Dude has had a penchant for siring blockbuster fillies. In fact, 12 of his 18 $200,000-plus earners are females.
At Gulfstream Park yesterday, Lady Emily gave an early indication that somewhere down the road her name might be added to that elite list. Making her career debut for owner/breeder Double Diamond Farm in a $50,000 maiden special at “about” 7 1/2-furlongs, the 3-year-old filly turned in a powerful performance for trainer Michael Maker with talented Emisael Jaramillo in the saddle.
Jaramillo took Lady Emily away in third place in the two path heading down the backstretch. They patiently shadowed fractions of :23.17 and :46.05 set by 2-1 second choice Baby Mo until the field hit the final turn. Then Jaramillo sent her up on the outside and Lady Emily ran away and hid, prevailing by 5 1/2 lengths that easily might have been 10 if the race had been a little longer. She was clocked in 1:28.74, paid a generous $18.20, and earned an excellent Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 80 along with a generous check of $30,500 for Double Diamond Farm.
In the heated battle for most winners by a Florida stallion in 2021, Lady Emily became No. 34 for First Dude, one behind leader Khozan.
