Ragatag Returns to Oaklawn Park and Gets 5th Victory

Ragatagtag broke her maiden in her career debut as a 3-year-old at Oaklawn Park in February of 2019, winning by 2 1/2 lengths and paying $25.40. The daughter of First Dude raced in Hot Springs twice more before leaving town, and spending her next 16 races at Arlington Park, Hawthorne, Fair Grounds and Churchill Downs.

After being claimed out of her last race by Steve Asmussen, Ragatagtag returned to Oaklawn yesterday after an absence of two years and showed she has lost none of her fondness for the track. With Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard, the now 5-year-old mare stalked the early pace in fourth place along the rail, had to check briefly on the turn, then turned it loose between horses and ran away and hid in the lane, scoring by nearly five lengths in 1:11.14 for the six furlongs. She paid $3.60 as favorite, earned a check for $16,800, and was claimed out of the race, Asmussen losing her after one lucrative try.

Ragatag became winner No. 22 for First Dude this year, four behind Khozan for the Florida lead, and raised her career earnings to $113,535 on a record of 5-6-2 in 20 starts. At the same time, First Dude’s career progeny earnings soared to $18,990,579.
