It took Workinonbeinsingle six tries to break her maiden, but when she did it was a thing of beauty.
The 4-year-old daughter of Bahamian Squall went wire-to-wire under Roberto Alvarado Jr. at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday, at the direct expense of favored Billysbirthdaygirl. Alvarado gunned his filly out of the gate and into the lead, with the 4/5 shot right on her tail. It remained that way all the way to mid- turn, where Billisbirthdaygirl ran out of gas, and Workinonbeinsingle drew off as though she was 3/5, cruising to the wire nearly nine lengths in front.
The filly bred by Melissa L. and William W. Anthony was clocked in an excellent 1:04.55 for the 5 1/2 furlongs and paid $8. She collected a check for $7,340 for Mary Thomas and her Team Equistaff, who purchased her for $29,000 at the 2020 OBS Winter Mixed Sale.
