Amazing: 5-Year-Old Gelding Cruises in Career Debut

It would hardly seem appropriate to designate a 5-year-old as a TDN rising star, but in the case of Bajan Sun it would be wholly appropriate.

The Bahamian Squall gelding was making his career debut racing five furlongs at Horseshoe Indianapolis with Marcellino Pedroza in the irons. Bajan Sun was listed at 8-1 in the morning line for his debut, but as the betting progressed, it was clear he was going to be much lower at post time, especially when handicappers found he had worked a bullet five furlongs in 58 seconds flat.

When the gate opened, he was down to even-money favoritism and Pedroza shot him to the lead. Bajan Sun proceeded to go wire-to-wire and was geared down late, still scoring by eight lengths in 1:05.32. The $9,000 OBS October RNA paid $4.20 and earned a check for $10,200 for Borders Racing Stable and trainer Joseph Davis.

Bajan Sun’s next outing will be eagerly awaited.
