Rising Star Lifts First Dude Close to $1 Million for 2023

Starship Renegade, the 5-year-old son of First Dude bred at The Acorn by Bill and Lynn Rainbow, and who didn’t make his first career start until October of last year, continued his rapid rise to stardom yesterday with a convincing seven-furlong score at Gulfstream Park.

Co-owned by veteran South Florida trainer Steve Dwoskin, Starship Renegade boosted his record to 4-2-0 in seven starts in his brief career, and yesterday’s check of $31,900 increased his bank account to $171,620. This year alone, he’s won two in a row, posted three victories and a second in four tries, and collected earnings of $135,220. His Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 95 followed one of 100 and two of 96.

Starship Renegade was off fourth leaving the gate and remained there down the backstretch as the leaders put up a :22.38 first quarter. Miguel Vasquez rushed him up to third on the turn, and he proceeded to run over the two leaders in early stretch, finally pulling away by three lengths. He paid $3.60 and was clocked in 1:23.75.

First Dude’s progeny earnings for 2023 jumped to $936,827.
