“Far outside – Famous Gent mows ’em all down. Famous Gent from downtown to win it.”
That’s how track announcer Pete Aiello described Famous Gent’s final sixteenth of a mile in the 10th race at Gulfstream Park yesterday, as the 5-year-old First Dude gelding rallied from ninth and last at the top of the stretch to become his sire’s 13th winner of 2023, and 24th member of his rapidly expanding $200,000-plus club.
Javier Castellano was aboard Famous Gent, who entered the $54,000 allowance optional claimer at five furlongs on the grass off two seconds in his previous three tries. Sent off at 4-1, the gelding bred by Trilogy Stable and Plesa was off last and never picked up a horse down the backstretch as the leaders put up blazing fractions of :21.38 and :44.30. From there, he exploded midway down the stretch to win by half a length in :55.88, earning an ‘E’ speed figure of 94 and a check for $32,400. That increased his bank account to $203,850 as he moved into the 23rd spot on the $200,000-plus list.
