Few riders have been able to form a bond with a mount like the one Luca Panici has with Maryquitecontrary.
The First Dude filly who turned four today has raced six times, registering five victories and a second, and Panici has been aboard for all five visits to the winner’ circle – Edgar Prado was aboard for the lone runner-up finish.
Maryquitecontrary, owned and bred by long-time Ocala veterinarian Rod Lundock, captured the $125,000 Rampart Stakes by 3 1/2 lengths at Gulfstream Park yesterday, her second stakes score this season, and her fourth straight victory. She earned $75,950 after getting the mile in 1:36.78, and received her best Equibase ‘E’ speed figure – a 98.
Overall, Maryquitecontrary is 5-1-0 in six tries with a bank account of $220,780. That moved her into 17th place on First Dude’s $200,000-plus club, which now numbers 21.
